Bittern close-up on Big Otmoor

Otmoor RSPB Nature Reserve, near Beckley, Oxfordshire (March 2009)
Observed on Big Otmoor. Reasonably close views from the path to the second screen. Crop from the full frame original.
The blue patch at the base of the bill suggests that this is a male. Also, the fact that it did not boom at the time indicates that it is probably a sub-adult (reference: Otmoor blog). This is in contrast to one of three January 2010 Bitterns (photo) which shows no blue patch.
