Nightjar (male) on a fence post

Brownsea Island, Poole Harbour, Dorset (May 2010)
Seen from the East Lake Hide in the middle of a very hot afternoon. Heat haze was unfortunately a problem. The bird occasionally shifted position and churred softly but otherwise remained on the post in full view for most of the afternoon. This shot shows the diagnostic white marks on the tail for an adult male bird.
