Osprey (Red 8T) takes off with trout at Rothiemurchus

Rothiemurchus Fishery, Aviemore, Cairngorms National Park, Inverness-shire, Scotland (August 2014)
Red 8T is a male Osprey ringed by Roy Dennis in 2009. He is also fitted with a GPS satellite transmitter which is not visible in this image. Click here for more information on Red 8T and his movements showing that he has overwintered in Senegal. I also photographed Red 8T at Rothiemurchus fishery in 2011. Click here for an image which does show the transmitter on his back.
The hide sessions at Rothiemurchus were led by GJ Wildlife Photography. Day 1 morning session (4:30 am - 10:00 am) resulted in 5 successful dives for fish at 6:18 am, 9:12 am, 9:14 am (Red 8T), 9:16 am and 9:33 am (Red 8T again). Day 1 afternoon session (4:30 pm onwards) produced 2 successful dives at 6:11 pm and 6:39 pm (Red 8T). Day 2 morning session led to 3 out of 4 successful dives at 5:23 am (Red 8T), 8:50 am, 9:02 am (no fish) and 9:03 am. It rained heavily during the afternoon session of day 2 and there were no dives into the water although many were aborted.
Mike Dowsett was also on the trip. You can view his Osprey photos here.
