Status is classified as Endangered - Ateles geoffroyi / IUCN Red List of Threatened Species. Also known as Black-handed Spider Monkey, Central American Spider Monkey, Geoffroy's Spider Monkey, Mono Colorado. The sub-species is probably Ateles geoffroyi ssp. frontatus (Black-browed Spider Monkey, Red-bellied Spider Monkey) based on geographic range.
