Red-crested Cardinal, Kilauea Point, Kauai

Kilauea Point National Wildlife Refuge, Kauai, Hawaiian Islands, USA (September 2015)
Also known as Brazillian Cardinal. This species is not native to the Hawaiian Islands but was introduced from South America in 1929.
This image was actually taken just outside the Refuge in the turning circle next to the gated entrance at around 7:30 am. The Refuge is open from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. The entrance fee is $5. The Point and the Lighthouse together with circling sea birds can be viewed from near the gate outside of opening hours.
