Great Frigatebird (juvenile) in flight, Kilauea Point, Kauai

Great Frigatebirds are regularly sighted patrolling the approaches to the Point and can be seen harassing Red-footed Boobies. Only adult female and juvenile birds were spotted. No adult males were seen. The juvenile bird in this photo is distinguished from the adult female by having a white head; the adult male is all dark. This image was taken from the end of the Point at around 11:30 am. The Refuge is open from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. The entrance fee is $5. Outside of opening hours, the Point and the Lighthouse together with circling sea birds can be viewed from near the gate.
