Brown Bear close-up at Martinselkonen

Martinselkonen, Suomussalmi, Finland (June 2013)
This photo was taken on a Nature Images Finland Bears trip led by Mark Sisson.
This photograph was taken at 9:00 pm in late evening sun; sunset was at midnight and sunrise at about 2:30 am. Bears can come very close to the hides and even brush against them surprising the occupants inside! Generally Bear activity declined substantially around 11:00 pm when all the food had been eaten. After this time, only an occasional Bear passed through and didn't linger. This was a good time to catch a few hours of sleep! Photographers remain in the hides overnight until about 7:00 am the next morning.
