Brown Bear reflection at Martinselkonen

Martinselkonen, Suomussalmi, Finland (June 2013)
This photo was taken on a Nature Images Finland Bears trip led by Mark Sisson.
This photograph was taken at 11:45 pm from one of the pond hides; sunset was at midnight and sunrise at about 2:30 am. There was a Bear near the pond hides when we arrived soon after 4:00 pm but it was frightened off when the food was laid out. There was no further activity at the pond until after 11:00 pm when it was reckoned that all the food had been eaten near to the more popular swamp and forest hides. Bears were seen occasionally until about 2:00 am but unfortunately in gloomy light. This was then a good time to catch a few hours of sleep! Photographers remain in the hides overnight until about 7:00 am the next morning.
